Issue 001 – Funeral Gold

Funeral Gold is downright fun, immediately setting the tone for any good time you want to remember with your friends. We can’t help but dig their surfy lo-fi tunes, even when Jon Paul is screaming “Look At Me I Wanna Be Somebody!” with an all-too-relatable angst. Give “Seven Years” a listen, as it is guaranteed to be your next summer anthem. If we had to sum them up, Funeral Gold is that band you want to show people at a party, because you know everyone will dig them.

The Interview:

How did you get started?

Two friends, like mindedness, and the desire to shred til we’re dead.

What are you doing now?

Currently JP is on tour playing bass for a rad band called Love Cop while Marc is holding down the fort in portland. We are looking to release an EP in the next few months so we will be in the studio a lot here soon.

What inspires you?

Weed and good vibes. The ocean.

Future plans: what are you doing next?

Planning to put out a full length in the next few months and hopefully with that comes a tour.

What does art mean to you? In other words, define art for us.

Art is what keeps us all perceptive. Perception is very important to make it as a human being.

Tell us about your most favorite piece of work that you have done.  Why is it meaningful to you?

Pretty much proud of all of our work so it’s hard to pinpoint anything. If we write a song that gets stuck in someone’s head, we are stoked.

The Outlyers:

How did you come up with your name?

Kind of on a whim. Was tired of seeing really basic names or ever names that were seemingly dramatic. I pretty much just wrote a bunch of words on a white board and Funeral Gold fit best.

What’s your most favorite show that you’ve played?

There’s an awesome house show venue in portland called Dark Place and it was just a ripping night. Lotsa good bands. Lotsa good people. Lotsa weed.

Finish this sentence……

I’m the happiest when…I’m feeeeelin’ it.

If I had it my way…I’d convince MTV to do a Cribs episode of the van I(JP) have been sleeping in.

It’s happy hour, what are you ordering?

SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS!!

Funeral Gold is based in Portland, OR.
